In my previous post about Islam I spoke about the Adan, call to prayer, and talked a little bit about what/who Allah is (the Arabic word for God). Another name in which you always hear associated with Islam is Muhammad, the prophet/messenger of Islam. Muslims believe that there were many prophets and messengers of God, including Jesus and Moses, but that the last prophet was Muhammad and that the last revelation of God was revealed to him in the Qur'an. Muslims believe that the Qur'an was sent to Muhammad over the course of 23 years by the angel Gabriel. Within the teachings of Islam you will find many overlapping stories and characters shared between Christianity and Judaism; like Gabriel, Jesus, and Moses to name a few.
Personal thought: It's interesting to me how similar Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are in comparison to other major religions such as Buddhism or Hinduism, yet how quickly people point out the differences. Maybe the world would be better off if instead of pointing out the differences between these religions we celebrated the similarities?
If you want to read more into this then follow the links I provided. It is pretty interesting stuff if you have the time to read through it. I just wanted to give a basic intro into who Muhammad was.
